This guide pulls together what Visit Greenwich, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the operators of the sites say about shopping in Eltham. We do not rank, review or praise individual shops, and we only quote times as the publisher gives them.

What is Eltham town centre?

Visit Greenwich describes Eltham High Street, at the heart of Eltham Village, as home to a mixture of high street names alongside restaurants, sandwich shops and fast food. It adds that Passey Place, which has a pub, also has a cinema.

Better's page for The Eltham Centre says the building at 2 Archery Road, just off the High Street, has pools, a gym and Eltham Library together. See our leisure centres guide and libraries guide.

What about the market?

The council's directory lists the Eltham Producers' Market at Passey Place, Eltham High Street, SE9 5DA, as an open-air market with stalls selling candles, clothes, and food and drink, run by CC Events. The first market of each month also has community stalls and free arts and crafts, according to the council.

The two sources do not agree on when it runs:

  • the council says the second and fourth Saturday of every month except December, 10am to 3pm
  • Visit Greenwich's market listing says the fourth Sunday of every month, 10am to 2pm

Confirm which is current with the organiser using the contact details on the council page. For other events see our markets and events guide.

Where do I park?

The council's directory lists three public car parks beside the town centre:

  • Orangery Lane, Archery Road, SE9 1HN: pay and display, 96 bays including three disabled bays, open 24 hours
  • Eltham Centre, Archery Road, SE9 1HA: pay and display, 60 bays including five disabled bays
  • Sainsbury's, Philpot Path, SE9 5DL: 310 bays including 20 disabled and 12 parent and child spaces, with current charges shown in the car park

The council says Orangery Lane and Eltham Centre are free on Sundays and bank holidays, charge from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5:30pm, and let motorcycles and Blue Badge holders park free. Charges and permit prices are given on those pages and change, so use our parking guide for the wider picture and check the signs on the day. For badge holders see our Blue Badge guide.

How do I get there?

Better lists the B16, 124, 126, 132, 160, 321 and 286 buses for The Eltham Centre, and Eltham station for trains. Our buses guide and train stations guide go into more detail.
