Most roads, pavements, street lights and fly-tipping in Eltham are the responsibility of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The council's page for all of it is Report issues on a street, which has forms for fly-tipping, road and pavement damage, trees, dead animals, drains, street lighting and street furniture or road signs. Timescales below are as published by the council and are targets, not guarantees.

How do I report fly-tipping?

The council's fly-tipping page asks for the type of rubbish, the location and, if you know them, who was responsible and when it happened. Photos or videos are optional. You can report online at fix.royalgreenwich.gov.uk, by phone on 020 8921 5025 (you can leave a message at any time, with responses Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or by email to envirocrime@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.

The council says it aims to clear reported fly-tips within 48 hours, though hazardous waste may take longer. It does not deal with fly-tips on private land, or on certain A roads and red routes, which are managed by Transport for London. If it is on your own land, the council says you must use a licensed waste carrier and should secure the land to stop it happening again.

How do I report a pothole or damaged pavement?

Use the council's road and pavement problem form. The council lists potholes, uneven pavements, uneven road surfaces and obstructions, and asks for the street name and exact location. For council estates, call the Cleaning team on 020 8921 4661 instead of using the form.

Published timescales: an inspection within five working days, standard repairs within 28 working days of inspection if the problem meets the council's repair criteria, emergency repairs within 24 hours of inspection, and complex repairs up to six months. The council says not every report needs a repair. That page does not explain how to report problems on Transport for London roads, so if the road is a red route, contact TfL.

How do I report a broken street light?

The council's street lighting page uses an online form for lights on public streets or in parks. You need the street name and location (the council's example is "the lamp post opposite 2 Glenesk Road"), the light type, and the asset number if there is a sticker. The council says it tries to repair faulty street lights within three working days of your report, though underground cable faults take much longer. For a dangerous problem outside office hours, call Customer Services on 020 8854 8888. For council estate lights, call the Cleaning team on 020 8921 4661. Red route lights are Transport for London's responsibility.

What about noise, pests and overgrown gardens?

The council's community safety and environment page links to reporting forms for noise nuisance, pest problems and overgrown gardens or yards, under its wider "report a nuisance" section.

What about missed bins and bulky items?

Missed bins have their own process in our bin collection days guide, and large items are covered in the household waste and tip guide.

In an emergency
